DVR TROUBLESHOOTING

Symptoms:
Nothing appears on the display.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The batteries are not loaded properly.
The batteries are dead.
The POWER/LOCK switch is set to OFF.
If none of these suggestions works
The recorder is in HOLD mode.

Action:

Verify polarity is correct.
Replace with new batteries.
Set the POWER/LOCK switch to ON.
Reset the recorder.
Release the recorder from HOLD.
   
Symptoms:
Won’t start.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The recorder is in HOLD mode.
The SmartMedia card is not formatted.
The batteries are dead.

Action:

Release the recorder from HOLD.
Format the SmartMedia card.
Replace with new batteries.
   
Symptoms:
Unable to record.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The SmartMedia card has a write-protect seal attached to it.
The SmartMedia card is unformatted.
The SmartMedia card does not have enough memory.
The maximum number of files has been reached.
Low remaining internal flash memory.

Action:

Remove the seal.
Format the SmartMedia card.
Erase unnecessary files or insert another SmartMedia card.
Check another folder.
Erase unnecessary files.
   
Symptoms:
No playback tone heard.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The earphone is connected.
The VOLUME control is set to 0.

Action:

Disconnect the earphone jack.
Unplug the earphones to use the internal speaker.
Adjust the VOLUME control.
   
Symptoms:
Unable to erase.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The file is locked.
The SmartMedia card has a write-protect seal attached to it.

Action:

Unlock the file.
Remove the seal.
   
Symptoms:
Noise heard during playback.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The recorder was shaken during recording.
The recorder was placed near a cell phone or fluorescent lamp while recording or during playback.

Action:

Move the recorder.
   
Symptoms:
Recording level too low.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The microphone sensitivity is too low.
Action:

Set the microphone sensitivity to CONF mode and try again.
   
Symptoms:
Unable to set index marks.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The maximum number of index marks (16) has been reached.
The SmartMedia card has a write-protect seal attached to it.
The file is locked.

Action:

Erase unnecessary index marks.
Remove the seal.
Unlock the file.
   
Symptoms:
Unable to eject the SmartMedia card.

Probable Cause / Reason:
The POWER/LOCK switch is set to ON.
Action:

Set the POWER/LOCK switch to OFF.
   
Symptoms:
Cannot find the recorded voice.

Probable Cause / Reason:
Wrong folder.
Action:

Switch to the right folder.
   
Symptoms:
Cannot use Fast Playback or Slow Playback.

Probable Cause / Reason:
Noise Cancel function is set to "LOW" or "HI".
Action:

Turn "OFF" the Noise Cancel function.
   
Symptoms:
Noise Cancel function doesn't work.

Probable Cause / Reason:
A file is being played back in Fast Playback or Slow Playback mode.
Action:

The Noise Cancel function doesn't work while a file is being played back in Fast Playback or Slow Playback mode.
   
Symptoms:
Cannot connect to a PC.

Probable Cause / Reason:
Some PCs and USB hubs may not provide sufficient power.
Action:

Turn the USB AUDIO "OFF" in the recorder's menu settings.
   
Symptoms:
Cannot connect to a PC using a cradle.

Probable Cause / Reason:
Sometimes a connection cannot be made with some PCs running Windows XP.
Action:

You need to change the PC's USB settings. Call CBayScribe Technical Support for a replacement @ 866-295-4600 x3133.
